You dial in your humidity, mist on schedule, do everything the guides tell you.
Then you open the lid and it's raining inside your tub.
Pools of water sit on your substrate.
Pins abort.
And you're left wondering what went wrong.
Nothing went wrong exactly.
You just have a condensation problem disguised as a humidity problem.
Once you understand the difference, the fix is straightforward.
Water collects inside a fruiting chamber for one reason:
Warm, moist air hits a cooler surface and dumps its moisture.
That's condensation.
Same thing that fogs your bathroom mirror.
The trouble is that most growers see puddles and think "too much misting."
So they cut back on misting, humidity drops, and now their pins dry out.
They chase the problem in the wrong direction.
The real issue is almost always a temperature differential between the air inside the chamber and the surfaces where water collects.

Not all "rain" is the same.
Where the water collects tells you what to adjust.
Heavy droplets fall from the lid onto your substrate.
This means the lid is significantly cooler than the air below it.
The fix is reducing the temperature gap.
Move the chamber away from air conditioning vents or cold windows.
If you use a heating mat, make sure it isn't overheating the bottom while the top stays cold.
A small piece of insulation on top of the lid can help in stubborn cases.
Sheets of water slide down the sides and pool at the base.
Same cause, different surface.
Thin-walled tubs in cool rooms are the worst offenders.
Wrapping the outside of the tub with a towel or moving it to a more temperature-stable location usually solves it.
You want the walls closer to the same temperature as the air inside.
The surface looks waterlogged but the walls and lid are fine.
This one actually is an overmisting problem.
Back off your misting frequency but not your FAE.
You want thousands of tiny droplets on the surface, not visible pooling.
If you squeeze a handful of substrate and water streams out, you were too wet from the start.
Every fix comes back to the same idea:
Keep surfaces and air close to the same temperature, and keep water in the air instead of on surfaces.
You are not trying to eliminate condensation entirely.
A thin, even layer of fine droplets on your substrate is exactly what you want.
That's proper surface moisture.
The problem is only when condensation concentrates and pools.
You will crash your humidity and stress your mycelium.
Small, targeted adjustments.
That is how you fix rain without creating a drought.
