Microdosing mushrooms for PTSD is capturing attention for its potential to transform lives.
Gone are the days when people relied solely on pharmaceuticals and struggled with side effects.
If you survive with PTSD, you could be beyond desperate, in a life-and-death sorta way, like I myself have experienced in the past.
Not long after Church of The Divine Heart was founded in 2021, a US military veteran reached out to me stating he hadn’t left his house in years with severe PTSD.
He was wondering how he could get some of the mushrooms.
I felt helpless, even though Denver just decriminalized psilocybin!
As I write this in Summer 2024, Colorado is still figuring out how people will be able to legally access psilocybin-assisted therapy for severe PTSD.
A controlled trial at Imperial College London found that psilocybin significantly reduced PTSD symptoms in participants who had not responded to standard treatments.
60% showing marked improvement, reporting fewer flashbacks, and less anxiety and depression.
Even when the State of Colorado gets their act together, it will cost upwards of $3500 for one macro therapy session—not covered by insurance, of course.
The best and most cost-effective way to access the medicine is to grow it yourself.
It's easier than you think! And very rewarding.
The most I could offer was a humble suggestion to grow his own at home and encourage him to seek the support of a VA therapist specialized in psilocybin-assisted therapy.
At least now, with statewide decriminalization in Colorado, we can gift, share and grow our own medicine.
Veterans with PTSD have a significantly higher risk of suicide, with some studies suggesting they are up to six times more likely to attempt suicide compared to those without PTSD.
You might be wondering, "What exactly is microdosing?"
In simplest terms, microdosing involves taking very small, sub-perceptual amounts of psychedelic substances—in this case, psilocybin mushrooms.
Unlike full-dose psychedelic experiences, microdosing allows you to knead out the whispers of those effects gently through your day.
Now let’s dig into how microdosing mushrooms can specifically benefit PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Victims of child abuse who develop PTSD are also at a higher risk of experiencing other mental health issues, including depression, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse.
When you have PTSD, you are constantly stuck in the sympathetic nervous system—fight flight, or freeze—which leads to adrenal burnout and all kinds of health issues.
Microdosing mushrooms rewires your nervous system, creating new neural pathways and healthier ways to respond to your environment.
I know because I walk in shoes with the shadow of severe PTSD every day.
I am so grateful for the mushrooms.
They have guided me toward digging into my childhood traumas, which were debilitating my life in every way possible.
I've never been to war...
PTSD experts compare the neurology of a survivor of child sexual abuse to one of a combat war veteran so I can only imagine what a day in a veteran's life with unacknowledged PTSD is like...
It wasn’t until I started learning how my neurology and limbic brain are different than people without PTSD, that my whole life kind of made sense before my very eyes.
It really helped me to learn about my triggers and why they ruled my life.
Before I started microdosing in early 2020, diving into my traumas wasn’t a priority or even on my radar.
Delusional pain hurts just as much as pain from actual trauma. So what if it’s all in your head?” -Tracy Morgan
Here's where the magic happens: microdosing mushrooms lovingly yet assertively, eases your PTSD symptoms, helping you reclaim your life.
You’ll notice the fog of trauma lifting, as your mind becomes crystal clear.
Psilocybin, the active compound in these mushrooms, interacts with serotonin receptors in your brain.
By stimulating these receptors, psilocybin enhances emotional resilience, aiding in the healing process.
You can feel a stabilizing sense of calm through your day as stress and anxiety begin to dwindle.
With heightened sensitivity, those of us with PTSD often reconnect with their world, savoring moments we previously overlooked.
An optimism that wasn’t accessible before.
Psilocybin has mood-enhancing properties, contributing to a sense of subtle euphoria and renewed hope.
**Remember the legal aspects.**
Verify psilocybin's status in your location before beginning.
Laws vary vastly—from decriminalization to harsh penalties. Knowing your legal standing could save you trouble.
A 16-year Marine Corps veteran found relief and near-overnight healing from psilocybin after two decades of emotional trauma.
Psilocybin helped her access grief accumulated over 20 years of conflict, leading to reconnection with her peaceful, joyous, authentic self.
There are tens of thousands of stories like Juliana’s among military veterans.
44 US military veterans take their own lives every day.
This statistic recently doubled when opioid overdoses were included.
Microdosing mushrooms for PTSD can significantly improve sleep quality.
Consistency, not overuse, is key for sustained relief.
The mushrooms do not allow abuse or addiction.
An essential piece to healing the PTSD brain includes both periods of neural stimulation (microdosing), and rest.
Microdosing isn’t just about mental clarity; it cultivates presence, helping you live in the now and navigate each day with emotional balance.
For a transformational healing journey with microdosing mushrooms and PTSD, incorporate healing modalities that calm your nervous system, like:
Healing in a community is essential, and we learned this from our ancestors.
Now, in western medicine, we are forced in a sterile room by ourselves, scared, afraid to speak about what we are going through- the hand of “privacy” forced on us.
No wonder we are so lonely, depressed and suicidal.
Find a community where you feel you can be unapologetically yourself. You need to speak up about the stuff that you have buried.
PTSD and trauma don’t just go away.
Trauma creates change you don’t choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose.
Michelle Rosenthal
I found my community in Al-Anon.
In Al-Anon, I hear my same story from people just like me, and I feel accepted and loved unconditionally.
And surviving with severe PTSD my whole life- those feeling were foreign to me.
And now I’m a "lifer".
Healing in community is how our ancestors healed.
Don't even think about journeying with microdosing mushrooms for PTSD without the support of a psilocybin-informed trauma therapist.
We are all human and when we get together and talk about our biggest fears and our flaws we berate ourselves with everyday, we learn how alike we are with so many people, regardless of the color of our skin, our professions, our political affiliations and our religions.
And those fears and practices of learned self-hatred gradually fade to the background and are replaced with feelings of unconditional love, support and just a feeling that everything is going to be ok.
Again, feelings we are unfamiliar with having survived with severe PTSD.
We are all human.
We are all one.
In a MAPS trial, psilocybin combined with traditional psychotherapy resulted in 68% of participants no longer meeting the diagnostic criteria for PTSD after three sessions.
Every healing step taken with intention outshines modern medicine's static norms.
Cheers and blessings to your journey toward peace, balance, and lightness.
You’ve got this.
It takes a lot of bravery and courage to look into the cave and stare your monsters in the face, so always remember to tell yourself that.

A big part of healing is digging deep and sharing openly our biggest fears.
A LOT of people are drawn to microdosing mushrooms but have mycophobia- a fear of mushrooms.
A powerful way to transmute fear is to physically write it down and share it with people.
Take this opportunity to let something go and propel yourself and possibly someone else towards a happier, more authentic life.

Reservations and Fears with Microdosing
I would like to start by saying how healing it is to be able to share a fear in a safe space and transmit its vibration.
I waited a long time to start …
